Visiting a dentist as a child should begin as young as possible, preferably shortly after cutting their first few baby teeth. Recommended for all ages groups, they should attend every 6 months or yearly if preferred. This way the dentist can monitor the child’s teeth for any problems, and hopefully prevent any from occurring or becoming worse.

During the visit, the dentist will not only assess the child’s teeth, but they will discuss with the parent and child important factors to keeping good oral health.

Things that might be discussed include- Good nutrition/Frequency of sugar intake, developmental milestones, oral habits (such as thumb sucking), fluoride needs and brushing advice/habits.
